As the Canadian economy continues to expand, the demand for permanent skilled workers has become increasingly necessary. To meet this need, IRCC (Immigration, Refugee, Citizenship Canada), and the government of Canada are looking to implement a new immigration process for allowing skilled temporary workers in the Express Entry stream a new pathway to become Permanent Residents.
IRCC plans for Skilled Temporary Workers as Permanent Residents
The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, announced the launch of category-based selection for Canada's economic immigration management system, Express Entry. Through category-based selection, Canada has the ability to offer foreign national's potential permanent residence with particular skills, training, or language proficiency to apply. Additional information regarding the timing of invitations for specific categories and the application process will be disclosed in the upcoming weeks.
“Everywhere I go, I’ve heard loud and clear from employers across the country who are experiencing chronic labour shortages. These changes to the Express Entry system will ensure that they have the skilled workers they need to grow and succeed. We can also grow our economy and help businesses with labour shortages while also increasing the number of French-proficient candidates to help ensure the vitality of French-speaking communities. Put simply, Canada’s immigration system has never been more responsive to the country’s social or economic needs.”
What Categories have been included?
The selection invitations for this year will prioritize skilled foreign workers based on the following categories,
work experience in the following fields:
healthcare
science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
trades, such as carpenters, plumbers and contractors
transport
agriculture and agri-food or,
a strong French language proficiency
A complete list of eligible jobs can be found here.
Category-based selection facilitates Canada's goal of welcoming highly skilled professionals in various fields, thereby promoting their integration into communities throughout the country. As well as Category-based selection The Canadian Government is prioritizing Francophone immigration to support French-speaking communities in their choice of official language while living in Canada.
In closing...
The implementation of category-based selection in the Express Entry system aims to improve its adaptability to Canada's economic and labour market demands. This approach builds on Canada's successful economic immigration system that focuses on high human capital. The focus on prioritizing skilled workers aims to bring in individuals who have the potential to integrate and contribute to Canada's future.
Therefore, there are high hopes for these new implementations, which will hopefully result in the quicker conversion of skilled foreign workers to Permanent Residents here in Canada.
